j. f. burma is a new analog synth project of jeremy berman, a longtime friend of the bunker who we met via the forums of i-f’s cybernetic broadcasting system internet radio station in the early 2000’s. while living in brooklyn, jeremy spent many hours each week searching for undiscovered gems among the piles of records (and sometimes rat skeletons) at notorious greenpoint crate-digging spot the thing. inspired and educated by the music he was finding, he purchased his first modular and started building synthesizers and modules in spite of his lack of training in electrical engineering. currently, about half of his current eurorack rig has been diy’ed via trial and error.

sometimes you have to put out a recdord for yourself. i first heard the east of underground lp from malcom catto in the jazzman records office in around 2000, after a couple of years i managed to pick one up for $100 from a soundtrack dealer who did not know what he had. now there is a few bangers on the lp but i have always thought is was the ballads that deserve the shine, so after a chat with egon at now-again i managed to sort out putting my two favorites on 45 for that end of the night slowy. hopeflly a few of you will enjoy this one also.

primitive trust is the coming together of two experienced musical minds. in one corner is will saul of the influential aus music empire, and in the other is tom mangan, aka tee mango, the producer who started millionhands record and clothing label. the pair met many moons ago and reconnected recently at a festival in morocco. they bonded over music, lunch and shared family travails - and as they both now live in somerset decided a little local studio collaboration seemed all but essential. between them, these consumate country gentlemen have seen plenty a musical styles come and go, so decided their best route forward would be to make music to please themselves. to that end, they holed themselves up in tee mangos woodshed studio with the following ground rules: they would make music only with the gear they had (mpc 2000, ableton, roland 101, juno, fender rhodes, various fx pedals) they would trust their instincts and go with first feelings they would embrace the joy of randomness if in doubt they would ask what would carl do? with that, you have the simple but effective mo of primitive trust. these sessions have resulted in a series of three eps to be released over the course of four months. each ep will feature 2 or 3 original tracks and one fresh remix, with unique artwork and an illustration by all-around visual auteur geoff mcfetridge. using the building blocks of house, and classic techno primitive trust can do zoned out and romantic, as much as driving and heady, but with an ease that comes from experience, years in the making. while tipping their proverbial hats to the past they also look to the future with their sound, mixing samples, wigged out synthwork and propulsive rhythms to create something honest and heartfelt that will stand the test of time

fiedel und ostgut ton schliessen sich für seine neue substance b 12inch zusammen. womit fangen wir an, abgesehen von der erwähnung, dass fiedels debüt-solo-release auf ostgut ton lang auf sich hat warten lassen und dass es gleichermaßen prächtig gelungen ist? der gebürtige berlin-brandenburger hat die mauer fallen sehen, begann in den 1990ern im subversiv aufzulegen, startete 1996 mit errorsmith als mmm zu produzieren, war ostgut-resident ab 2000, machte damit ab 2004 im berghain nahtlos weiter, betreibt die eigenen labels fiedelone und fiedeltwo, arbeitete im hard wax-plattenladen und ist tragende säule bei wax treatment und dem killasan soundsystem. das urgestein von berlins technoszene präsentiert sich heute frisch und in topform mit seiner ersten solo o-ton-veröffentlichung, knüpft an seine intensiven beiträge zu den compilations fünf (2010), various (2013) und ostgut ton | zehn (2015) mit einem noch stärkeren drei-tracker an. fiedels produktionsstil atmet den geist der frühen tage von techno music, verbindet genres und techniken, konzentriert sich nicht nur auf eine enge musikalische narrative, kombiniert techno, acid, electro, jungle, boogie, dubmusik und broken beats. substance b ist die logische konsequenz eines passionierten djs mit vinyl-schwerpunkt, erfahrenen produzenten und akribischen tontechnikers: ein zwingender klang für moderne zeiten.
